Underground power transmission lines have been applied to major urban and some required sections, but recent environmental factors and civil complaints have increased social needs to replace existing overhead lines with underground lines.
Although interest in underground power transmission line is increasing due to urban upgrading and industrialization development, it takes more than 10 times civil engineering / construction cost compared to existing processing line, and it is disadvantageous that maintenance is difficult. Therefore, various technologies are required to secure the convenience of construction and the reduction of connection points through compacting and long distance of underground cables.
f the manufacturing, evaluation and standardization of compact cables with improved insulation performance and semiconductive compound with improved insulation performance are realized through this technology development, it is expected that it will be an opportunity to reduce the insulation thickness of 345kV power cable by more than 10% in 20 years.
